Benedict “Homer” Gorski, 66, of Garfield Street, Nanticoke, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
He was born in Nanticoke, a son of the late John and Alexandria Gorski. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, class of 1958, and was a member of St. Francis Church, Nanticoke. He was also a member of Honey Pot Social Club.
Ben’s greatest love was his family, and he especially adored his four loving grandchildren, Matthew Gorski, Mallory Markowski, Noah Gorski and Bradley Markowski. His life was about giving and sharing. There was nothing that Ben would not do to help anyone. His zest for life and positive spirit will live on through all that knew and loved him.
Homer was an avid hunter and golfer. He anxiously looked forward to the Saturday match with the boys. He also enjoyed his Doberman, Luke, and morning walks. Homer also enjoyed hunting rabbits with his beagles, Jasper, Rascal and Bandit. Homer always said there is nothing like the sound of a beagles bark “disturbing the morning chill. Fetch ‘em!”
He was employed and recently retired from Verizon, where he was employed for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Barbara, who passed away in February 2003.
Presently surviving are his children, son and “pal” Brian and his wife, Elizabeth; daughter Lori Ann “Pidgey” Markowski and husband Daniel; brother John, Philadelphia; sisters Bernadine, Elaine and Liberta, all of Nanticoke; four adoring grandchildren, Matthew and Noah Gorski, Mallory and Bradley Markowski; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Grontkowski Funeral Home, P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Francis Church, Nanticoke, with the Rev. John Krafchak and the Rev. William Langan officiating.
Interment will be in Corpus Christi Parish Cemetery, Wanamie. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
