Don Sherwood’s reelection campaign must really be in some trouble if he’s bringing in Dick Cheney, the Bush administration’s master of deceit, to campaign for him. Interestingly, Cheney did not make any public remarks during his brief stop in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Instead, he popped into Sherwood’s gaudy $1,000-a-plate fundraiser, took some pictures with the millionaires who showed up and snuck out the back door.
It is important to remember that Dick Cheney is about as popular as hemorrhoids right now, and his relatively low-key visit may have had something to do with that. On the other hand, it is also quite possible that Cheney abstained from making a public endorsement of Sherwood because of the questions he would have faced. Most notably, “Don Sherwood let down his family and his constituents by cheating on his wife and allegedly abusing his 20-something mistress. How can we trust him again?”
If you ask me, it’s a darn good question that public officials like Rick Santorum, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush should be willing to answer.
