The Moosic Mets Fall Showcase Team split two games, tied one and had another rained out this past weekend in the Blue Chips Invitational Showcase.
The first game against ICB Lightening, N.Y. ended in a 2-2 tie. The Mets had 18 hits in their 8-1 win over the New Jersey Cardinals in game 2. The R.I. Titans defeated the Mets 10-3 in the third game. A.J. Albee had a double and a single in the first game, a home run, a double, a single, and three RBI in the second game, and three hits in the third game.
The Penn State-Minnesota football game at noon on Saturday in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome is scheduled to air on ESPN2, but it may be moved to ESPN regional affiliates if ESPN2 is carrying a Major League Baseball playoff game early Saturday afternoon.
The game will also air on the Penn State Sports Network and at www.GoPSUsports.com.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An investment group including Christian Laettner and former Duke teammate Brian Davis reached an agreement to buy 70 percent of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Laettner is also interested in playing for the Grizzlies, according to Davis. Laettner, in the league 13 years, left the NBA after the 2004-05 season with Miami.
Davis said an agreement was reached with billionaire Michael Heisley to buy his majority 70 percent interest in the team for about $360 million. Davis and Laettner are putting $40 million of their own money into the project.
MINNEAPOLIS — Four-time All-Star Vin Baker, who has struggled with injuries and alcohol, signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.
The veteran forward, who turns 35 next month, agreed to a non-guaranteed contract.
Baker averaged 3.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 10.1 minutes in eight games with the L.A. Clippers last season. He has spent time with six teams.
PITTSBURGH — Duquesne forward Sam Ashaolu, the only one of five injured basketball players still hospitalized after last month’s shootings, was moved from a critical care unit into rehabilitation Monday.
Ashaolu spent several days fighting for his life with multiple gunshot wounds to the head following the Sept. 17 on-campus shootings, but is progressing faster than expected at Mercy Hospital. Doctors initially thought he would still be on a ventilator.
