The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport will receive $500,000 from the state for construction of the new terminal and runway pavement repairs.
The airport was among the 12 statewide named to receive $5 million in grants administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Aviation.
The airport’s Joseph M. McDade terminal, built at a cost of more than $41 million, opened in May.
In September, the airport accepted the low bid of $157,800 from Pikes Creek Site Contractors for repairs to the main runway.
FedEx Express, owner of the world’s largest cargo airline, will increase net average shipping rates by 3.5 percent at the beginning of the year, the company announced Friday.
The rate change will be made up of a 5.5 percent increase in standard list rates and a 2 percentage point reduction in fuel surcharges, the company said.
The change is to apply to U.S. domestic and export express package and freight shipments.
FedEx Express, the largest business unit of the FedEx Corp., said other adjustments in surcharges are expected as of Jan. 1. Details are to be released by Nov. 10.
FedEx said it also expects to announce rate increases for FedEx Ground shipments next year.
