Museum to display bed believed used by Lincoln

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County officials on Friday confirmed that a bed found in storage is one believed to have been used by Abraham Lincoln at a Pittsburgh hotel when he was traveling to Washington for his inauguration.

The bed was discovered Oct. 26 by a worker in a storage area above a county carpenter’s shop.

Experts have since matched the bed’s ornate details to photos of furniture from the room at the Monongahela House hotel, where Lincoln stayed on Feb. 14, 1861.

Officials showed off part of the bed Friday at the Sen. John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center, where it will eventually be displayed.
