ASHLEY: The Wyoming Area Girls Basketball Team is having a pastie, pot pie and pierogi sale during December. Anyone interested in purchasing the homemade items from Main Street Bakery in Ashley, can contact any player from teams 7th grade through varsity. Orders may be placed by calling, Cathy Maheady, president, Lady Warriors Basketball Parents Association, at 693-4581. All returns can be made to the coaches or any officer of the board during the week of Dec. 8. Delivery date is set for Dec. 19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the WA Secondary Center Cafeteria.

NANTICOKE: Hanover Recreation Club will host their 3rd annual Christmas party for children of the Hanover Section from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the clubrooms of the HRC located at 318 Front Street (Town Tavern). Children up to and including age 11 are invited. Santa will be in attendance and refreshments will be served. To list a child, call 735-5054 or 735-3809 by Dec. 13.

MOUNTAIN TOP: The Friendship Circle of Christ United Methodist Church is selling homemade peppermint crunch candy for $6.50 per pound. Orders can be given to any member of the Friendship Circle or by calling Sally at 678-5759 no later than Sunday. The candy will be available for pick up at the church on Dec. 17.

PLYMOUTH: The Sons of the American Legion will sponsor a Polka Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday at the Post home at 33 Center Ave. Eddie Derwin and the Polka Naturals will be the featured entertainment. The public is welcome.

PLYMOUTH: The Rotary Club of Plymouth will welcome Santa Claus via fire truck at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the coal miners’ monument, Main Street. Children of Plymouth and the neighboring communities are welcome to attend and will receive a holiday gift from Santa and his cartoon character helpers.

PLYMOUTH: SAL Squadron 463, Plymouth, will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Post home at 33 Center Avenue. Members are asked to pay their 2007 dues before January if they have not done so.

SCRANTON: David Wenzel, author of “Scranton’s Mayors,” will hold a book signing at 2 p.m. Sunday at Albright Memorial Library, Vine Street. Admission is free. Price of the book is $15.

WHITE HAVEN: The annual Joy of Sharing Christmas Event will take place from 1:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the White Haven Presbyterian Church at 305 Berwick Street. There will be hands on activities with the birth of Christ and proceeding on to traditional Christmas crafts all relating to Bible stories. The event is free but reservations are a must. Children will go through in groups of 10 or 15 minute intervals starting at 2 p.m. and the last group will be at 6 p.m. To make reservations, call Betty Yakubowski at 636-2114 or Anna Stewart at 636-3314 or the church office at 443-7293. Children must be accompanied by an adult. If a child would like to come and does not have an adult available, accommodations can be made when calling for a reservation. The event is open to the public.

WILKES-BARRE TWP.: A tree lighting ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. today at the Wilkes-Barre Township Town Hall on Watson Street. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

WILKES-BARRE: The weekly Wednesday evening dinners at the Knights of Columbus Home 302 of Wilkes-Barre will be cancelled during the entire month of December due to the Christmas holiday activities for all. Dinners will resume on Jan. 3.
