“Pues, te necesitamos a ti en un especial festivo que se llevara acabo en Enero 27.
“Then we want you for a special evening on Jan. 27.”
As part of her goal of having a noteworthy event at the Mary Stegmaier mansion each weekend, ArtsYOUniverse executive director Kathleen Godwin is planning a Latin Night, a celebration of art and conversations, from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at 156 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre.
“I want to provide a comfortable place for people to get to know each other,” said Godwin, who plans to organize one event each month devoted to the culture and art of a different ethnic group.
Future evenings might have a Middle Eastern or Asian flavor.
“Don’t forget Polish,” Ed Orlosky, a maintenance worker in the mansion, said Tuesday morning as he leaned into Godwin’s office holding a dust cloth. “I’d like to learn some Polish songs.”
That may happen in the future, but for now, “Latin is first,” as the handouts proclaim.
“La Latina es la primera.”
Among the performers on Saturday will be a young woman who told Godwin “she could come, that she has a dress to wear and a dance she can do.”
But you don’t have to perform to participate. Everyone is welcome to come and mingle in the mansion, which is home to the studios of several artists.
Admission will be $5.
