Gertrude Evans

Mrs. Gertrude Evans was greeted by the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 24, 2007, after being in the care of the wonderful staff at the Tyler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, on March 10, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Horace and Annie Smith. She graduated from Kingston High School, and had resided in Tunkhannock for two and a half years. Previously, she had resided in Kingston for most of her life.

She was very active with the Wyoming Avenue Christian Church, Kingston, and volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels and Dial a Driver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Evans; and a brother, Allen Smith.

Surviving are daughters Carol Pritchard and her husband, Earl, Port Charlotte, Fla.; Joan Kendig and her husband, Donald, Tunkhannock; son Donald Evans and his wife, the former Karen Lowe, of Bethlehem; sister Eleanor Smith, Kingston; sister-in-law Ruth Smith, Brandon, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Hugh B. Hughes and Son Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with Pastor William H. Fudge, Wyoming Avenue Christian Church, and Pastor Joseph Billingsley, Mehoopany Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 392, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
