The calendar now tells us that the season of spring is officially here and the board of directors and staff of the Back Mountain Memorial Library would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our patrons and residents of the Back Mountain a very happy springtime. As warmer (hopefully!) temperatures arrive and flowers slowly begin to blossom, we have several events planned to celebrate the season.
Our 20th annual “Luncheon With a Special Author” will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, at the Appletree Terrace at Newberry Estates. The featured speaker, author and entrepreneur, Sanford J. Ungar, will discuss his book, “Fresh Blood - The New American Immigrants.”
Mr. Ungar has been the host of several programs on National Public Radio, including the award-winning “All Things Considered.” He has spoken frequently around the United States and other countries on issues of American foreign policy, domestic politics, free expression, human rights and immigration.
The cost for the luncheon is $23 and must be paid at the time a reservation is made. It is requested that reservations be placed at the library by April 7.
Another opportunity to relax and unwind presents itself as Irish storyteller Richard Marsh from Dublin, Ireland will entertain us with his authentic Irish tales of myths, legends and international stories at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.
Marsh is a member of the Dublin Yarnspinners and Storytellers of Ireland. He receives rave reviews as he travels throughout several countries performing a variety of Irish stories.
Join us on this magical journey amidst dimmed lighting and light Irish-themed refreshments here at the library. This program is free; however, pre-registration is requested by calling 675-1182.
After slowing down at these two events and before the onset of spring fever, please remember that we are currently accepting donations of collectibles, household items, ceramic figurines etc. for sale at our Nearly Olde tent.
This popular area is only one portion of the Annual Back Mountain Memorial Library Antique and New Goods Auction to be held on July 10, 11, 12 and 13 here on the library grounds.
Donations may be dropped of at the library during normal hours.
For those people who have pre-ordered their daffodils here at the library from the American Cancer Society, you are reminded to pick up them up on Wednesday, March 26.
