RICHBORO – Back Mountain American improved to 2-0 at the Pennsylvania East Division Little League tournament Tuesday with a back-and-forth 13-9 win over Carlisle at the Council Rock Northampton Little League Complex.
Greg Petorak picked up the win in relief of Kyle Razawich to lead American. Isaiah Lippert took the loss for Carlisle (0-2).
“They both pitched well,” American manager Greg Petorak said. “Even though we gave up nine runs, this was a big team. They had two guys 6-1 or taller.”
American will clinch a spot in Thursday’s championship game with a victory at 5 p.m. today against Devon-Stratford.
Rick Stayer and Kyle Razawich led the nine-hit American attack with two hits each. Razawich homered and drove in four runs while Matt Doggett homered and drove in two runs, Petorak and Jon Strausser drove in two runs each. Rick Stayer tripled for American.
Carlisle jumped out to a 2-0 on the first of two home runs from Brian Goodling in the first. American closed the gap to 2-1 when Razawich drove in Doggett with a single to right.
American grabbed a temporary 5-2 lead in the third when Stayer led off with a triple to right. After an out, Petorak singled to center to tie the score 2-2. American loaded the bases when Bill Gately was hit by a pitch and Doggett walked. Razawich and Kris Roccograndi each drove in a run when they walked on four pitches each. Doggett scored the final run the third on a wild pitch from Carlisle starting pitcher Garret Blank.
Carlisle answered with three runs in its half of the third on a bases-clearing double by Nick Wagner to tie the score 5-5.
“Every time they got the lead, we’d come back and take it away,” Petorak said. “That’s the way it usually goes for us.”
After holding American in the fourth, Carlisle took a 7-5 lead on Goodling’s second two-run homer of the game. American took the lead back in the fifth when Razawich hit his second inside-the-park home run in two days to drive in Strausser and Gately for an 8-7 lead. Carlisle tied the score 8-8 after five innings on a RBI single by Dalton Gibson.
