HARNESS RACING Adios deadline set

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs announced Tuesday that the deadline for declarations for the 2008 Delvin Miller Adios Stake No. 42 is July 26 at 10 a.m.

The race office will be open from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. on July 26 to accept entries for one of the premier harness races in Pennsylvania.

If eliminations are necessary, the draw posts will be held July 29 and eliminations will take place on Aug. 1.

The $320,000 final will be held Aug. 9.

GOLF Holes-in-one

Forty Fort resident Bill Klaips scored a hole-in-one while playing at Applewood Golf Course on Monday. Klaips used a gap wedge to score his ace on the par-3, 126-yard No. 4 hole.

Witnessing the shot was Susan Shepherd.

Wilkes-Barre Twp. resident Mary Kay Yurkavage scored a hole-in-one on July 15 while playing in the Tuesday night ladies league at Blue Ridge Trail Golf Club.

Yurkavage aced the par-3 ninth hole on the Ridge Course using a 9-wood. Witnessing the shot were Debbie Charnichko, Linda Mantz and Mary Ellyn Butkovsky.

Simon wins Captain’s

Dorothy Simon scored a 68 at Wyoming Valley Country Club to win the Captain’s Day Tournament on Tuesday. Coming in second was Jeanne Elinsky (67). Sandy Sheruda (65) was third and Joyce Gelli (65) was fourth.

Eyet, Oh take Ryder

Marie Eyet and Sue Oh teamed to win the Ryder Cup Tournament at Irem Temple Country Club on Tuesday, carding a 60 over 18 holes.

Coming in second was Joann Freeman and Diane Kocik (64). Third place went to Joan Moran and Betsy Thomas (66).
