Franklin Ferrell, 92, of Wesley Village, Jenkins Township, and formerly of Clarks Summit and R.R. 1 Mifflintown, Pa., died at 8:28 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2008, at the Village.
Born January 4, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was a son of the late Joseph and Martha (Brown) Ferrell. His first wife, Esther (Wagner) Ferrell, whom he married May 19, 1938, preceded him in death on March 1, 1999. His second wife, Dorothy (Hall) Ferrell, whom he married on Sept. 30, 2000, preceded him in death in June 2008.
Surviving are three children, Robert W. Ferrell and his wife, Barbara, of Charlotte, N.C.; Ruth Hurlock, of Lima, Ohio; and Glenn F. Ferrell and his wife, Patricia, of Plains, Pa.; two step-daughters, Bonnie Hall, and Donna Kepler and her husband, Andrew, all of Clarks Summit. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Having been preceded in death by two brothers, Jarvis E. and Joseph F. Ferrell, he was the last of his immediate family.
After graduating from Ridley Park High School in 1934, he then continued his education by attending Drexel Institute from 1945 to 1949.
As a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church, Clarks Summit, he had served as a Sunday school teacher and lay leader. He had also served as scoutmaster from 1952 until 1957 in Morton, Pa., and had been a member of the Mifflin County Civil Conservation Corps.
In 1978, he retired from the Chrysler Corporation as a manufacturing manager after 24 years of service. Earlier in life, he had also worked for the Dupont Corp., Wilmington, Del., and Sun Ship, Chester, Pa.
Franklin was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling, especially to Florida in the wintertime.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, from the Brown Funeral Homes Inc, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with Pastor Ronald L. Shupe officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.
Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
