Chris O’Neal has been hired as creative services director for WBRE-TV, WYOU-TV and PAHomepage.com, effective Sept. 15. O’Neal is currently promotions director at Nexstar Broadcasting and owned and operated stations WTWO-TV and WFXW-TV in Terre Haute, Ind. He received a 2006 Emmy Award for “Return to Auschwitz,” a five-part news series and also captured a 1996 Associated Press Award for Best News Series while employed as a news photographer.

MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY

Misericordia University and the Conference for Mercy Higher Education recently elected the following new members for three-year terms on the university’s board of trustees:

Dr. John T. Queenan, of Washington, D.C., is professor and chairman emeritus of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown University Hospital, and is an obstetrician, gynecologist and author. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame, cum laude, and earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical School.

Kristopher B. Jones, J.D., of Wilkes-Barre, is president and CEO of Pepperjam, a full-service Internet marketing agency located in Wilkes-Barre. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Science from Villanova University and a Juris Doctorate from Albany Law School.

The university also named the following 11 new full-time faculty members to campus:

Anna Fedor, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of chemistry. She has a doctorate in chemistry from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University.

Xuegang Jia, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of chemistry. He has a doctorate in analytical chemistry from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, P.R., China.

Dan Kimbrough, M.S., is a visiting assistant professor of communications. He has a Master of Science in electronic broadcast management from Central Michigan University and a Bachelor of Science in psychology and media studies from Manchester College.

Julie Kuhlken, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of philosophy. She has a doctorate and Master of Arts in philosophy from Middlesex University, London, England, and master’s, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from Stanford University in education, art history and mechanical engineering, respectively.

Michael Orleski, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of physics. He has a doctorate and Master of Science in physics from Lehigh University, and a Bachelor of Science in physics, Master of Science in general science and Bachelor of Science degrees in earth science and secondary education, and general science and secondary education from East Stroudsburg University.

Melanie Shepherd, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of philosophy. She has a doctorate in philosophy from the Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Science in philosophy from Hanover College.

Steven Tedford, Ph.D., is a visiting assistant professor of mathematics. He has a doctorate and Master of Arts in mathematics from Binghamton University and a Bachelor of Arts from Marist College.

Verna Eschenfelder, Ph.D., O.T.R., is an assistant professor of occupational therapy. She has doctorate and master’s degrees in OT from the Texas Woman’s University, and a Bachelor of Science in health care administration from the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Hunter Manasco, Ph.D., M.S., C.C.L.-S.L.P., is an assistant professor of speech-language pathology. He has a doctorate in speech-language pathology from the University of South Alabama, and a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in speech-language pathology from the University of Montevallo, and a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from Birmingham-Southern College.

Ryan O’Loughlin, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of psychology. He has a doctorate and Master of Science in social and personality psychology from the University of Rochester and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Quinnipiac University.

Celeste Fisher, Ph.D., is a visiting scholar for the Diversity Institute. She will teach courses in communication and sociology. She holds a Bachelor of Science in television, radio and film management from Syracuse University, a Master of Science in Applied Public Affairs Studies from State University of New York at Buffalo and a doctorate in philosophy from New York University.

HONORS & AWARDS

Rick Purdy, of Hughestown, an electronics technician in the Tobyhanna Army Depot’s Command, Control and Computer/Avionics Directorate, has earned the Employee of the Quarter award for the second quarter of the 2008 fiscal year. He was recognized for helping meet or exceed repair cycle time dates for work performed on the AN/TPS-75 Defense Radar System, which is used by the Army, Air Force and Navy for voice and data communications.

Purdy joined the Automated Test Equipment staff eight years ago and has worked on numerous electronic systems during his 34-year career.

Corcoran Printing was ranked No. 4,334 on the Inc. magazine annual ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the country. The Wilkes-Barre firm reported a three-year sales growth rate of 61.8 percent.

Maria J. Oreshkina, Ph.D., of Wilkes-Barre, an assistant professor of education at The University of Scranton, is one of nine faculty members selected by the faculty development board at the school to receive summer 2008 grants for her research entitled, “The practice of inclusion in modern Russia: Literature review.” Oreshkina is a graduate of Moscow State Pedagogical University, with master’s and Ph.D. equivalent degrees in Special Education with a specialization in Speech Pathology. She also earned a doctorate in Educational Psychology from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
