Berwick wrestlers earn ‘W’

The Berwick wrestling team got back on the winning track, taking nine matches to beat Coughlin 45-27 on Thursday.

Berwick was led by falls from Anthony Tallanca (103), Arlent Mejia (145), Roy Dennis (189) and Ryan Sitler (215) in the only wrestling meet in all of District 2 on Thursday.

Josh Popple (160), David Bronsburg (171) and Shane Smith (285) notched pins for Coughlin in its final Division I dual of the season.

Christine Sereta led Hazleton Area to a big win with 12 points. Melanie Palko added 10 more points while hitting two three-pointers.

For Pittston Area, Lauren Smicherko had a game-high 14 points.

Competing in their first home match since November, the Monarchs celebrated by winning eight of 10 bouts. Mike Tabasco (125 pounds), Tony Miele (141) and Chris Rash (285) earned pins for King’s (8-10).

Jerry Robbins added a technical fall in the win.
