Armory receives mural from veterans post

American Legion Post 558 of Plains Township has donated a mural illustrating the train wreck in 1950 near West Lafayette, Ohio, that killed 33 National Guardsmen from the 109th Field Artillery in Wilkes-Barre. The mural is on display in the entrance of the 109th Field Artillery’s armory on West Market Street in Wilkes-Barre. From left: John Ralston, American Legion District commander; John Conway, post commander; Sgt. 1st Class John Paul Karpovich, 109th Field Artillery; Staff Sgt. Daniel Stella, 109th Field Artillery; George Swaditch, second vice commander; Al Rowles Sr., vice commander; and Dino Ninotti, former member of the 109th Field Artillery and current American Legion member.
