Sophie V. Surowitz, 95, of Wyoming, died Tuesday evening at Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Warrior Run, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Alexandria (Staniszewski) Surowitz. Sophie worked as a Nanny and Housekeeper in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 40 years and was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice I. Gola, Ann Rutkowski and Eleanor Falkinburg; brothers Victor and Paul Surowitz; and a niece, Theresa Szykman.
Surviving are her niece Eleanor Prushko, with whom she resided; nephew Thomas Gola, Wilkes-Barre; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews and a great-great-great-nephew.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Hospice units for their wonderful care and support of Sophie.
Funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Wilkes-Barre.
