Seminary students work with Hawaiins on deforestation project

Students in Wyoming Seminary Lower School’s sixth grade researched local and global deforestation issues as part of the National Association of Independent Schools’ 20/20 Challenge. The students used their research of Pennsylvania deforestation to share and compare with students in the Montessori School of Maui in Hawaii and to develop a local urban forest action plan for middle school students to carry out in the future. This group of sixth-graders also collaborated on Borneo deforestation issues with the Hawaiian students. They finally met ‘face-to-face’ during a video chat on Earth Day. During the chat, from left: Katherine Rogers, Clarks Summit; Madison Sweitzer, Kingston; Lia Sminkey, Laurel Run; Atalia Dressler, Kingston; Nathalie Joanlanne, Dallas.
