DINING AL ‘FRESCO’

There’s a new dining option in the Back Mountain: Fresco Grill and Martini Bar. It’s in the Dallas Shopping Center in the space formerly occupied by Cuvenée and Black Duck Grill. The restaurant is owned by Marcello and Bruno Ameti, who also own Café Toscana on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre.

Fresco will have more small plate options and a larger wine by the glass selection than its downtown cousin. It’s open for lunch Monday through Friday and dinner seven days a week. For more info, call 570.255.1005.

The Dallas Shopping Center caught fire late Monday night, and while Dallas Fire Chief Harry Vivian told the Times Leader yesterday flames were contained to the roof and façade, many of its 18 businesses suffered smoke and water damage. Phone calls to the restaurant Tuesday were not answered.

TIP A BOTTLE BACK

Bottleneck’s Saloon & Eatery (2 S. Broad St., West Hazleton) will open a second location next year in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

“Our goal is to be open by St. Patrick’s Day,” owner Jason Misto told the Times Leader last week.

Bottlenecks will occupy the former Wendy’s space on Public Square. Misto said the Wilkes-Barre location’s menu would be the same as West Hazleton’s. Known for its chicken wings, Bottleneck’s menu also offers pasta, seafood, steaks and more.

I look forward to adding a new stop to my parade day pub crawl. Let the countdown begin!

MENU MANIA

Make sure to check out the newest installment of the Weekender’s Restaurant Guide in this week’s issue. Featuring 21 restaurants from Trucksville to Scranton, I look at it not as an eatery guide, but a checklist of where I should be eating.

HOLIDAY EATS

Naturally my favorite part of the holidays, aside from presents, is all the food associated with it. I am looking so forward to Mom’s eggplant parmigiana, which is always amazing, and my Super Secret Mascali Family Recipe cookie cake for the big day. If you’re on the nice list, I’ll make sure to save a piece of both for you, if not …

Merry Christmas and Happy Dish-ing at your own tables!
