George T. Starrie Sr., of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the Golden Living Center, Summit Health Care, Wilkes-Barre.
Born July 15, 1924, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Fred Mancini.
George attended Wilkes-Barre area schools and was employed in the area coal mines for 15 years. He was also employed at Intermetro Wire for another 15 years before retiring.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post 558, Plains Township.
He was member of St. Dominick’s Church, Parsons.
He was preceded in death by wife Violet Richards Starrie in 2002, daughter Rita Fenner in 1999, son Raymond Starrie and 2009 and brother Leo Starrie.
Surviving are sons Thomas and his wife, Marlene, Bear Creek; George T. Jr., Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Thomas Starrie Jr. and Alan Starrie, Raymond Fenner and Robin Rygielski, Ian Starrie and Jennifer Lewis; great-grandchildren Brandon Fenner; Nicholas Larsan; Brianna Fenner; Avalon, Nadia and Ariel Starrie; Brian Rygielski; and Madison Lewis; as well as a stepbrother, Fred Mancini, of Kingston.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Dominick’s Church, Austin Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Joseph Kearny, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call this evening, from 5 to 8.
