Black Knights win, clinch playoff berth

HONESDALE – Cassi Cragle and Catherine Sullivan scored first-half goals as Lake-Lehman clinched a District 2 Class 2A playoff berth with a 2-1 victory over Honesdale in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division B girls soccer game Monday.

The Black Knights (4-3-3) overtook Honesdale (5-6) for the division’s automatic berth in the D2-2A playoffs. Both are in, as the second-place team will play in a play-in game.

Kelsey Kohrs scored late in the game for the Hornets.

The Preppers opened a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game on a pair of goals by Kristyn Lizbinski and held on to get their second win of the season and second in team history.

Brielle Sherman scored twice for the Tigers, while Gabrielle Joseph notched the third MMI tally.

Liridona Hakaj, Krysten Brockman and Nicole Rhoades scored first-half goals for the Warriors, who opened a 3-0 lead at the half and coasted to the victory.

Brockman added a goal in the second half and so did Kelly Capello and Kalie Mackey.

Krista Colarusso scored for the Hawkeyes.

North Pocono and Hazleton Area battled into double overtime yet the game ended in a tie. Maria Cardoso scored North Pocono’s single goal.
