Back Mountain wins pair from Nanticoke

NANTICOKE – Back Mountain took both games of an American Legion Baseball doubleheader against Nanticoke on Saturday, winning the opener 9-6 and the nightcap 4-0.

In the first game, Derek Martin went 3-for-4 with two RBI while teammate Hunter Englehart smacked a home run to rally Back Mountain from a 5-0 deficit after the second inning.

In the nightcap, winning pitcher Steve Ruch tossed a one-hitter while striking out five. Mike Eckman had two hits and two runs scored. Steve Olshemski chipped in two hits and two RBI.

Chad Hoffman was 4-for-4 with two doubles as Hazleton won the opener 11-4. Adam Davis, the winning pitcher in the first game, was the top hitter in the nightcap. He was 3-for-3 with a triple.
