Horn, Upton

Meghan Aileen Horn and Daniel William Upton were united in marriage yesterday, June 27, 2009, in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Walter E. Jenkins, C.S.C.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neil G. Horn, Kingston. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. McCarthy, Kingston; Anne Marie Horn, Wilkes-Barre; and the late George Horn.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Upton, Bloomsburg. He is the grandson of Marjorie Barba, Doylestown; the late Charles Barba; and the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Upton.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose her sister, Colleen Horn, as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were: Mary Kate Lambert and Kelly McGlynn, cousins of the bride; Melissa Boyda, Alison Hutch, Maria Viercinski and Julie Viercinski, all friends of the bride. Bridget Duffy, cousin of the bride, and Natalie Yim, cousin of the groom, were flower girls.

The groom chose his brother, Christopher Upton, as best man. Groomsmen were: Daniel Horn, brother of the bride; Nicholas Barba, cousin of the groom; Brandon Heller, Jordan Miller, Daniel Price and Sean Wooster, all friends of the groom. Steven and Harrison Yim, cousins of the groom, and William Brzoska and Brendan Duffy, cousins of the bride, were ring bearers.

Scripture readings were given by Kathleen Lambert and James Horn, godparents of the bride. Offertory gifts were presented by Marjorie Barba, grandmother of the groom; Anne Marie Horn, grandmother of the bride; and Mr. and Mrs. John D. McCarthy, grandparents of the bride.

The bride and groom were honored at an engagement party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Lambert and Mr. and Mrs. John McCarthy Jr. at Fox Hill Country Club.

The bride was honored at a display shower, hosted by the mother of the bride and her attendants, at the Westmoreland Club.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at the Frederick Stegmaier Mansion. An evening cocktail hour and reception were held at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, Plains Township.

The bride is a 2001 graduate of Bishop Hoban High School and a 2005 graduate of King’s College, with a bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Scranton. Meghan is employed with the Wilkes-Barre Area School District as a first-grade teacher. She is also the junior varsity cheerleading coach at Holy Redeemer High School.

The groom is a 2002 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 2006 graduate of King’s College, with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He is a fourth-year medical student at Temple University School of Medicine. Dan is currently completing his rotations at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

The couple honeymooned to Eden Rock and Jade Mountain in the Caribbean. They will reside in Edwardsville.
