Dr. and Mrs. Edward G. Zurad, Shavertown, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by attending the Baccalaureate Mass for the 2009 graduating class of Holy Redeemer High School. They were married on June 2, 1984, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Lancaster.
Mrs. Zurad, the former Patricia Anne Gilligan, is the daughter of Bob and Anne Gilligan, Lancaster. She graduated from Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing. She works with her husband in his office at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, and is an EMT with Tunkhannock Ambulance.
Dr. Zurad is the son of Helene Zurad, Philadelphia, and the late Joseph Zurad. He graduated from West Chester State University and Jefferson Medical College. He did his family practice residency at Lancaster General Hospital. Besides maintaining his private practice, Ed serves as the plant physician at Proctor and Gamble, Mehoopany, and teaches physicians and students locally and nationally.
The couple met in July, 1982, at Lancaster General Hospital, where Patti was an ICU nurse on Ed’s first rotation as an intern in critical care medicine. They were engaged on Christmas Eve, 1983. They lived in Whiteville, N.C., for two years before moving back to Pennsylvania in 1987. Their children were all born in Tunkhannock, where they resided until moving to the Back Mountain six years ago.
Patti and Ed enjoy working and walking together, traveling, entertaining, playing cards and going to the beach. They also keep busy attending all their children’s school events.
They are the proud parents of four children: Ariel (and Pepper), Bronx, N.Y., a junior at Fordham University; Noah, a sophomore at Penn State University, State College; Abbey, their 2009 Holy Redeemer High School graduate and a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing; and Olivia, a sophomore at Holy Redeemer High School.
Ed and Patti also celebrated their anniversary last summer with a 16-day trip to Barcelona, Spain, and a Mediterranean cruise aboard the Brilliance of the Seas. Their children and Patti’s parents joined them on this great adventure.
