James Charles Simmons, 57, Springville, died on Friday, July 24 2009, in the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville due to complications from a liver transplant last year.
He was born in Waterville, Minn., on March 28, 1952, a son of the late Stacy and Alice (Wentworth) Simmons.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Prior to his illness, Jim worked as a chef and banquet manager at Shadowbrook Resort in Tunkhannock, and later as a technician with Procter & Gamble in Mehoopany. He enjoyed riding the country roads on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, cooking for family and friends and mowing the lawn. Jim was an easy-going gentle man who had a wonderful sense of humor
He is survived by a son, Eric Lars Simmons, of Sterling, Va.; one daughter, Stacey LaDawn Simmons, of Scranton; a granddaughter, Rhianna Simmons; his devoted friend, Bambi Ilku, of Springville; and several cousins in Maine.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with Pastor Charles Bishop officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
