HANOVER TWP. – Travelers are traveling and Travelocity is hiring approximately 80 people to meet the demand for its online services.
The company will hold a job fair on Dec. 8 at its call center in the Hanover Industrial Estates.
“As the Travelocity Partner Network has expanded in recent months, we knew we had to get more agents on the phone, and it made the most sense to do this here,” the company said in a prepared statement Wednesday.
The hiring push comes at a time when unemployment in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area is close to the 9.6 percent rate last seen in December 1992.
The area’s rate was at 9.5 percent in September, according to the most recent state data. October’s numbers will be released Wednesday.
Most of the spots to be filled by April 2010 are for associate service agents, with a few openings for supervisor positions.
Applicants for the associate service agent jobs should have basic computer and typing skills, attention to detail, problem-solving skills and on outgoing personality. The jobs pay between $10 and $13 an hour.
The Southlake, Texas, company, owned by Sabre Holdings Corp., has 150 workers at its local office and has been a tenant in the park since 2005, when it relocated from Plains Township.
The company said it has a multiyear lease and made a “sizeable investment” in the local operation with room to grow.
