Michaels leads Dawgs to victory over Cougars

BERWICK – Katlin Michaels had 13 points, 11 kills and seven digs to lead Berwick to a 3-1 victory over Hazleton Area in a Wyoming Valley Conference girls volleyball match Thursday.

Berwick won the fourth game 25-20 to prevail. The Dawgs opened with 25-21 and 25-17 victories before Hazleton Area rallied with a 25-17 win.

Kristen Kemmerer had 11 points, 18 assists and five kills for Berwick. Haley McClaflin had 19 points and five kills.

Jenny Wizeman led Hazleton Area with 12 kills, 17 digs and five blocks. Michele Bowler had five kills, three blocks and 10 digs. Lindsey Baranko added 27 assists, four kills and two aces.

Holy Redeemer 3, Coughlin 0

Monica Wignot’s 10 kills and nine service points helped the Royals to a 25-9, 25-7, 25-7 victory.

Brianna Dugas (10 kills, 9 points), Emily Jones (17 assists, 5 points) and Maura McCormick (7 blocks, 4 kills) also helped Redeemer.

Lake-Lehman 3, Nanticoke 0

Leanne Grabski had 13 kills and three aces to help the Black Knights to a 25-20, 25-9, 25-16 victory.

Catherine Sullivan had seven kills and two blocks. Sarah Sorber added 20 assists and a pair of kills.

Kelsey Yohey had seven kills, a block and a dig for Nanticoke. Morgan Thomas had three kills, two blocks and an ace. Amy Robocheski added 15 assists, a kill and an ace.

North Pocono 3, Pittston Area 1

North Pocono won by scores of 25-18, 25-15, 13-25, 26-24.

Pittston Area was led by Brianna Purdy (10 kills, 3 blocks), Amanda Gretz (7 kills, 7 digs) and Beth Yuschovitz (15 points, 5 digs).

Cross Country Hanover girls sweep

Hanover Area defeated Pittston Area 26-31 and Wyoming Area 25-30 on Wednesday to earn the win.
