Louise A. Fischer, of South Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday evening shortly after admission to the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Gabriel and Louise Weis Fischer. Louise was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School, the College of New Rochelle and had received her Master’s Degree from Columbia University, New York City.
Louise taught high school in Westfield, N.J., for several years prior to returning to Wilkes-Barre, where she had been employed as a teacher and guidance counselor by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District at Meyers High School.
Louise was a life member of St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre and had been an active member of many church and community organizations. Louise loved to travel and felt that it served as her hobby.
She is survived by her sister, Margaret Mary Fischer, with whom she resided; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Lisman Funeral Home Inc., 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with the celebration of a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Shavertown. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
