William V. Umbra Sr., 88, of Larksville, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the Hampton House, Wilkes-Barre.
He was the husband of the former Eileen Coulter, who passed away in 1994 after 49 years of marriage. Born June 2, 1920 in Kingston, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth Perugino Umbra.
He was a graduate of Kingston High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific. After serving his country, he worked for many years at Superior Motors; Keller Lifts and finally, Wegmans, before retiring. He was a member of the Lehman Golf Club where he scored two holes in one. He also loved to bowl.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Patrick and the Rev. James Umbra; sisters, Isabella Spicak and Mary Swartz.
Surviving are his children, Susan Chapman of Wilkes-Barre, William Jr. and his fiancée, Lisa Novelli of Nanticoke; sisters, Rose Bellas and her husband, Leonard, Catherine Smith and her husband, Charles; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held Tuesday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main Street, Shavertown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Church.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 9.
