Marvel F. Bowar, 85, of Silver Spring, Md., died Thursday, January 29.
He was born in Cross Plains, Wis., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bowar, and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Marvel was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Europe, where he was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart. After the war, he served his country in a career at the Department of Defense, working at the Pentagon until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beulah, in 1979; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, the former Joan Albamonte, Silver Spring; children Charles, Valencia, Calif., and Sharon, professor of art at Wilkes University; stepchildren George, Elena, David and Andrew Albamonte; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jo, Wisconsin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
