Sylvia Jakuboski, 83, of Avoca, and formerly of Wilford Street, Pittston, left us peacefully to be with our Lord on Friday, April 3, 2009. She was a short-time resident at the Hospice Community Care Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Pittston on Oct. 12, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Tessie (Gentile) Rich. She graduated from Pittston High School and was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Pittston. She was former member of the church choir and the Golden Star Bible Class.
Sylvia retired from Diane Elaine Frocks, Pittston, and was former member of the ILGWU.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; four brothers, Michael, George, John and Paul Rich; two sisters, Jennie Tamburro and Grace Galasso.
She is survived by a son, Edward Jakuboski and his wife, Nancy, Avoca; a daughter, Joy Cooney and her husband, Mark, Milford, N.H.; six grandchildren, Edward Jr., Amanda, Drew, Abby Jakuboski and Tyler, Braedon Cooney; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. from the Second Presbyterian Church, 143 Parsonage St., Pittston. Officiating will be Pastor David Brague. Interment will be in Pittston Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday at Kniffen O’Malley Funeral Home Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca, from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
