CHICAGO — Grammy-winning “Queen of the Blues” Koko Taylor is dead at 80.
Her record label, Alligator Records, made the announcement. She died in Chicago about two weeks after having surgery for a gastrointestinal bleed.
Taylor was considered one of the greats in the blues genre. She won a Grammy in 1984. Her most recent album, 2007’s “Old School,” was also nominated for a Grammy.
