Edward J. Hooper, 85, of McAuley Drive, Dallas, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Joseph Ross Hooper and Rachael (Lowe) Hooper.
Ed was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church, Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre. He was a graduate of Harter High School, West Nanticoke, Class of 1941.
In January 1942, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was aboard the USS Munising 1228 during his service time. He was employed for 33 years by the Acme Markets.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas; sister, Shirley Gallagher; and his stepmother, Mabel Hooper.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Marjorie Siegel; daughters, Marilyn Carey, of Kingston; Marcia Moore, of Hanover Township; grandchildren, John, Neal Carey, Mindy, Katie Moore; great-grandchildren, Kayley, Daphne, Ava Carey; sister, Mary Harrison, of Kingston; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 6, at 11 a.m. from the Piszczek-Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 679 Carey Ave., Hanover Township, with the Rev. Dr. Horace B. King officiating.
Burial will be at Fern Noll Burial Park, Dallas. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
