Robert Samuel Koscinski

Robert Samuel Koscinski, 58, of Swoyersville, passed away Thursday evening at home.

He was born in Kingston, a son of the late Henry and Rosemary McGovern Koscinski. Robert was a graduate of West Side Vocational and Technical School, Class of 1969. He was formerly employed by Retreat State Hospital and retired in 2007 from Clark Summit State Hospital as a psychiatric aide.

He was a member of Holy Family Church, Luzerne.

Robert was born and raised in Luzerne and remained in the Wyoming Valley creating a beautiful family and home.

Robert was an avid billiards player and a member of the Scranton Pool League, and throughout his life, could be found at one of the many billiard parlors in the area, enjoying his favorite pastime.

Robert also held his annual pitch game every summer where his many friends gathered at his home, enjoying card playing by the poolside.

He was a religious fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies, attending the 1980 World Series and continued to follow them through their slumps and wins. He took several trips to Philadelphia every summer, usually with a caravan of friends and family to see the games in action. He was a season ticket holder to the SWB Pioneers and attended every game with his beloved son and best friend, Dale Robert.

Robert also coached his daughter’s Swoyersville girls softball teams, Lehman’s and Barilla’s, for more than 10 years. As a coach, Robert truly was a father figure and role model to these young girls and was always proud of them, win or lose.

Robert was a true movie buff and enjoyed many lazy afternoons going to the movies. Robert also was a fan of Superman and his lifetime hero, John Wayne, “The Duke.”

Robert was a believer that “good will always prevail, and the hero will always save the day.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Eric Patrick Koscinski; and brother-in-law, Robert Gober.

Robert is survived by his wife, the former Norma J. Taylor; son, Dale Koscinski and his wife, Candyce, of Clarks Summit; daughter, Erin A Koscinski, of Swoyersville; sister, Judy Gober; also numerous nieces; nephews; grand nieces; grand nephews; many friends; and sadly missed by his loving cats, Mikko, Meesha and Tia.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Luzerne, with the Father Richard Fox officiating.
