Eugene Breznay Sr., 81, of Swoyersville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.
He was born on January 22, 1928, in Swoyersville, a son of the late John and Johanna Peeler Breznay.
Eugene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he earned the Korean Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He also served in the Merchant Marines.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed in local textile mills, including Hess Goldsmith, Lee Textiles and Fortune Fabrics.
Eugene was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville.
He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.
Surviving is his wife, the former Eleanor Fabiny, with whom he celebrated their 60th anniversary on October 22, 2009. Also surviving are his son Ronald and his wife, Diane, Hanover Township; son Kenneth, Washington, D.C.; son Eugene Jr. and his wife, Kathy, Swoyersville; granddaughter Beth Ann Breznay; step-granddaughter Joanna Durbin and her husband, Tom; step-grandson Christopher Siejak and his wife, Jamie; step-granddaughter Lisa Bellanca and her husband, Samuel; great-grandchildren Katelynn, Courtney, Anakin and Ayden Siejak; Olivia Durbin; and Samuel and Sophia Bellanca; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Eugene was a loving and devoted husband, father, “Pop-Pop,” uncle and friend. His life will be forever celebrated by the lives he touched. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. today from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Swoyersville.
