Margaret “Cookie” Tomsak, 64, of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 2, 2011, in her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born December 29, 1946, she was a daughter of the late John and Laura Hughes Durkin. She was a graduate of St. John the Baptist High School, class of 1964.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Wesley Village where she worked as a nurse’s aide for 18 years. She truly enjoyed caring for the elderly.
She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church of St. Monica’s Parish, West Wyoming.
Preceding Cookie in death, besides her parents, was a brother, John “Butch” Durkin.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph, with whom they celebrated 42 years of marriage on April 19; sons, Thomas Tomsak and his wife, Amy, Exeter, and Robert, West Wyoming; daughter Laura Tomsak, Stamford, Conn.; sister, Mary Durkin, Pittston; brother, Thom Durkin, Pittston Township; grandchildren, Sara and Megan Tomsak, who brought joy to her and whom she loved so very dearly; as well as several cousins.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center for the excellent care that was given to Margaret. A special thank you goes to nurses Cathy and Debbie for the extra special care they gave.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Church of St. Monica’s Parish, West Wyoming. Interment will be in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
