Students at Wyoming Area Catholic named Ignatian Scholars

Wyoming Area Catholic School, Exeter recently received notification and a congratulatory letter on the outstanding performance of their eighth grades students who took the Scholarship Entrance Exam. Two students earned the distinction of being an Ignatian Scholars. They are Megan Moran and Peter Kulick; because of their superior achievement on this examination these students received the Ignatian Scholar commendation.

Megan Moran is the daughter of Colleen and Brain Moran of Tunkhannock. She is a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston. Peter Kulick is the son of Sharon and Mark Kulick of Pittston Township. He is a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont.

There were over 400 students from 50 schools in Northeastern PA that took the scholarship exam. Pictured are: Megan Moran and Peter Kulick.

Geography Bee

The National Geographic Bee is a nationwide contest for schools in the United States. The Bee is open to students in grades four through eight. The Bee is a program of the National Geographic Society which provides the questions and the answers. The questions are designed to test a student’s knowledge of geography. Topics would include cultural and physical regions, physical phenomena such as tectonic activity and landforms, populations and political systems.

There are three levels of competition: school, state and national. After a preliminary competition in Social Studies class, ten students from grades four through eight were eligible to compete in the school competition. They were:

Fourth grade: Adiya Golden

Fifth grade: Charles Kulick

Sixth grade: Marissa Moran and Sarah Cragle

Seventh grade: Emily Kolojejchick and Christian Coassolo

Eighth grade: Peter Kulick, Ian Madigan, Madonna Mantione, and Zachary Voitek

On January 5, 2011, Wyoming Area Catholic held the school level competition of the National Geographic Bee. The Winners for the School Competition were:

First place: Zachary Voitek; Second place: Ian Madigan; Third place: Charles Kulick

Zachary Voitek will now represent Wyoming Area Catholic School on the state level of the Geographic Bee. Congratulations to all participants. Thank you to Mrs. Geri Ulichney, sixth grade Social Studies Teacher, and the moderator of the National Geographic Bee.

Thank You

The school community of Wyoming Area Catholic received a thank you letter from Sr. Marie Therese I.S.P. of the Little Sisters of the Poor. She expressed in her letter gratitude for the wonderful gifts of canned food and toiletries that we donated to the sisters to give to the elderly in their care. The community will keep Wyoming Area Catholic in their prayers and will celebrate a mass for our intentions and the intentions of all benefactors.

Night at the Races

The annual Night at the Races will be held on Saturday, January 29 at the Wyoming Area Catholic Gym. This event kicks off the celebration of Catholic Schools’ Week: A+ for America - Catholic Schools! Magic 93’s Frankie Warren will emcee this event. Doors open at 6 p.m. and race time is 7 p.m.

There is the opportunity to sponsor a race and to purchase “horses” for race night. All information can be accessed on Edline. For the community at large, for more information, please call the school at 654-7982 to receive brochures and forms or to inquire about the Night at The Races.

PTG Meeting

Please note there will be no PTG meeting in January. The next PTG Meeting will be February 7 at 7 p.m.
