Swimmers set for Tuesday showdown

Lady Patriots, Lady Warriors meet was postponed Friday

Cross River rivals Pittston Area and Wyoming Area remain on a collision course as both won swim meets to remain unbeaten in Wyoming Valley Conference Division II action with their annual matchup in the pool on deck for Tuesday.

Weather conditions on Friday forced the closing of schools, and therefore postponed the Lady Patriots and Lady Warriors matchup in the pool to this coming week.

PA 107, Meyers 76

Pittston Area remained unbeaten with a 107-76 victory over Meyers in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division III meet on Wednesday at the Kistler Pool in Wilkes-Barre.

Samantha Scialpi checked in with wins in four events to lead the Lady Patriots, and Michelle Fernando posted three victories.

The duo combined with Kaylene Sutkowski and Sarah Kosik to win the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 2:09.06, and with Sutkowski and Emily Zurek to with the 400 Free Relay in a time of 4:20.28. The time in the 400 Free Relay was a season-best for the quartet as they bettered their previous time by just over three seconds.

Scialpi also added individual victories in the 100 Free and 100 Back races in times of 1:00.53 and 1:10.55 respectively.

Fernando added a victory in the 200 IM in a time of 2:35.16

WA 103, Nanticoke 54

Macawley Brown posted four victories, and Holly Ferrance, Melissa Cruz and Tia Brown each won three events to lead Wyoming Area to a 103-54 victory over Nanticoke in Wyoming Valley Conference Division II swimming.

Macawley Brown started things off by teaming with Melissa Armitage, Ferrance and Cruz to win the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 2:21. She then captured individual victories in the 200IM and 500 Free before teaming with sister Tia, Cruz and Ferrance in the 200 Free Relay.

Tia Brown added wins in the 100 Fly and also teamed with Lauren Frisbie, Megan Potoski and Ferrance in the 400 Free Relay.

Cruz added an individual win in the 50 Free in a time of :28.19, and Potoski won the 200 Free in a time of 2:29.33.

Keirstin Lasher took the top spot in the Diving competition.
