Patriots edge out win over Royals

Simmons terrific between the pipes in 2-1 win

The Patriots may have been without key offensive sniper Gage Hill, but the Patriots didn’t need many goals to win. Shawn Simmons was terrific between the pipes for the Patriots coming up with big save after big save leading the Patriots to a 2-1 victory over the Holy Redeemer Royals last Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre.

It was Holy Redeemer who would take the early 1-0 advantage in the game. With 5:12 remaining in the first period, Tom Zdipko found fellow Royal Kyle Morris in front of the net and Morris was able to put the puck pass Simmons.

Just two minutes later the Patriots stole the momentum in the period.

Most of the players from both teams crashed the net after a loose puck, but Tyler Loftus came up with it in back of the net and centered the puck to Anthony Passarella who lit the lamp. The Passarella goal knotted the score at 1-1 with just 3:09 remaining in the first period.

With 3:03 remaining in the second period, Passarella found the net again. This time it was thanks to a beautiful pass from Richard Weinstock. The Passarella wicked slap shot gave the Patriots the 2-1 advantage.

Both teams had multiple chances in the third period, but just couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Wyoming Area Warriors also hit the ice on Friday night at Revolution Ice Centre. They faced off against Susquehanna Valley. However, the Warriors were without their starting goalie Cody Smargiassi and senior star Kody Nowicki. Susquehanna Valley emerged victorious by a score of 11-4.

Dominick Policare led the Warriors with two goals. Kolton Begley and Matt Menendez added a goal and an assist each. Zeb Gavigan and Jordan Hoeft chipped in with an assist each.
