Warriors split on mat with WB schools

Patriots escape Valley West with victory

Andy Schutz lost in a dual match for the first time this season and Wyoming Area managed just three wins in a 55-13 loss to WVC Division II co-leader Wilkes-Barre Meyers on Wednesday night in Exeter.

Schutz lost a 6-2 decision to Mohawks standout Vito Pasone at 125-pounds. Pasone normally wrestles at 119 but bumped up to take on the unbeaten Schutz.

Nick Heck scored an 11-0 major decision victory for the Warriors at 130-pounds, and Mike Harding won a 9-3 decision at 140-pounds.auriello won a forfeit at 112-pounds.

WA 53, GAR 18

Wyoming Area used six forfeit victories, and wins by Steve Barush, Andy Schutz, Sean O’Malley and Nick Mazzone to defeat GAR, 53-18, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division II match.

Barush won a 6-0 decision over Joey O’Day at 119-pounds, and Schutz won an 11-0 major decision over Andrew Barrow at 125-pounds for the Warriors.

O’Malley took a 16-4 major decision from Ray Ashford at 135-pounds for WA, and Nick Mazzone pinned Henry Rodriquez in %:15 at 152-pounds.

PA 34, Valley West 26

Pittston Area won only seven bouts against Valley West, but three of them were by pinfall, allowing the Patriots to escape with a 34-26 win over the Spartans in a WVC Division I match on Friday night in Plymouth.

Kevin Wesolowski, Brandon Dolan and Jon Skrzysowski all recorded victories with pins in their respective weight classes to pace PA.

Wesolowski pinned Qalil Ismail in 1:53 in the 135-pound bout; Dolan stopped Derick Resinger at 152-pounds in 1:20; and Skrzysowski pinned TJ Evans in 55 seconds at 215-pounds.

Jason Laboranti added a 14-3 major decision victory at 189-pounds for the Patriots, and Chris Wesolowski won a 4-3 decision in the heavyweight bout.

Tyler Lutecki also won a decision, 7-5, over Tyler Roper at 112, and Jamie Scarantino picked up a forfeit victory at 103 pounds.
