Five swimmers pace WA win

Pittston Area sizzling in pool

Wyoming Area used wins by just five different swimmers on its way to a tight 103-83 victory over Wilkes-Barre Meyers on Wednesday in Wyoming Valley Conference Division III swimming action.

Lauren Deluca and Macawley Brown led the way for the Lady Warriors with four wins each as WA won seven of the 12 races.

Deluca and Brown teamed up with Melissa Cruz and Tia Brown to win the 200 Medley Relay for their third victory of the season. The duo then teamed with Ellie Laffey and Cruz to win the 400 Free Relay in a WA season-best time of 4:23.27. Laffey also added a second place finish in the 500 Free.

Deluca added individual wins in the 100 Free and 100 Back, and Brown set season-best times in both her races with a 29.08 in the 50 Free and a 1:06.01 in the 100 Fly.

Cruz added a win in the 100 Breast, and a second in the 200 IM for Wyoming Area.

WA 105, Coughlin 75

Wyoming Area won all but one race in a 105-75 win over Coughlin on Friday afternoon in the Kistler Pool.

The Brown sisters – Tia and Macawley – and Melissa Cruz contributed four wins each for the Lady Warriors and Ellie Laffey kicked in with three victories to pace the winners.

The foursome first teamed to win the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 2:14.08 before each won individual events over the next seven individual races.

Tia Brown captured the 200 IM and 100 Fly while Macawley Brown won the 100 Free and 100 Breast. Cruz took home the 50 Free and 100 Back, and Laffey won the 500 Free.

Tia Brown then teamed with Laffey, Megan Potosky and Lauren Frisbie to win the 200 Free Relay, and Macawley Brown teamed with Cruz, Potosky and Frisbie to take the 400 Free Relay.

PA 123, Coughlin 61

Samantha Scialpi and Michelle Fernando continue to dominate in the pool for Pittston Area as each contributed four victories in a 123-61 win over Coughlin on Wednesday in WVC Division III swimming.

Scialpi and Fernando teamed with Emily Zurek and Kaylene Sutkowski to win the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay, and then individually won four other races for the Lady Patriots.

Scialpi won the 50 Free and 100 Back and Fernando took home the 100 Fly and 200 IM.

Zurek added a third victory for PA with a win in the 100 Free in a season-best 1:03.93. Tiffany Smith chipped in with a win in the 200 Free in a time of 2:33.77

Alyssa Scatena won the Diving portion of the event for Pittston Area with a season-best score of 186.40.

PA 123, West Scranton 57

Pittston Area got four wins each from Samantha Scialpi and Michelle Fernando to take a WVC interdivisional meet with West Scranton, 123-57.

Scialpi won the 50 Free and 100 Back and Fernando took the 200 IM and 100 Fly individually before pitching in to help the Lady Patriots win all three relays.

The dynamic duo teamed with Kaylene Sutkowski and Emily Zurek to win the 200 Medley Relay.

Scialpi then teamed with Smith, Nina Fischer and Sarah Kosik to take the 200 Free Relay. Fernando teamed with Sutkowski, Zurek and Kosik to win the 400 Free Relay.

Sutkowski added an individual victory in the 100 Free for Pittston Area.
