Richards leads Warriors to upset win

Wyoming Area posted a big victory with a 3-1 win over Lake-Lehman in a WVC Volleyball match on Tuesday afternoon in the Back Mountain.

The Warriors fell behind 1-0 after a 25-20 loss in the first game of its back with the favored Black Knights. But Tony Richards led a big rally with 38 assists as Wyoming Area came back to win the next three games, 25-22, 26-24, and 25-13.

Larry Popovich added 20 kills for the Warriors, and Cody Gates chipped in with 13 kills and eight blocks.

WA 0, Holy Redeemer 3

Wyoming Area gave Wyoming Valley Conference volleyball champion Holy Redeemer all it could handle in a 3-0 loss to the Royals on Thursday afternoon at Wyoming Area High School in Exeter.

The Warriors lost the first game 25-9, but battled in the final two games in 25-18 and 25-20 losses.

Tony Richards had nine assists, three kills and two blocks to lead Wyoming Area. Cody Gates six kills and four blocks for the Warriors.
